Community Partner: Lula Lake Land Trust
For over 30 years, Lula Lake Land Trust has been dedicated to protecting and preserving natural and historic landscapes around Rock Creek and its tributaries through conservation, education and low-impact recreation. The trust was founded in 1994 by the will of Robert M. Davenport Sr. For decades Davenport acquired property in the Rock Creek watershed and rehabilitated areas once plagued by illegal dumping and logging. Over time the timbered zones were reforested, and public access was restricted to ensure long-term conservation.
To date, The Trust has worked to preserve 12,000 acres in and around Lookout Mountain. They own 3,500 acres and continue to facilitate conservation easements with private landowners. The Core Preserve, which includes Lula Lake, Lula Falls, and the Bluff Overlook has become one of the region’s most beloved and photographed spots. Additionally, Lula Lake Land Trust has donated land to expand the nearby Cloudland Canyon State Park and orchestrated trail systems to connect conserved and public lands.
The preservation of land, water, and scenic views benefits not just visitors, but the health of the ecosystem and surrounding communities. The preserved area is rich in biodiversity and ongoing ecological protection helps to grow healthy forests of threatened Virginia Spirea and Hemlock trees, in addition to other native flora and fauna.
We invite you to experience the tranquil beauty of Lula Lake Land Trust for yourself. They offer “Open Gate Days” on the first and last weekends of the month, in addition to guided hikes. The “Classic Loop” includes the famous Lula Lake, 110-foot Lula Falls and Bluff overlook. The 4.5-mile hike is moderately difficult with a 700-foot elevation gain. The “Adventure Loop” is more challenging with a higher elevation gain for more exploration.
We are proud to partner with Lula Lake Land Trust to help expand the their conservation efforts and the region’s beauty for generations to come. For more information about Lula Lake Land Trust or to plan your hike, please visit: Lula Lake Land Trust - Chasing Waterfalls
